Bathgate & West Lothian Highland Games takes place on the last Saturday of may every year in Meadow Park, and has done since 1973.  In 1990, Bathgate had the honour of hosting the European Pipe Band Championship, but in the years to follow attendance started to dwindle.

Three years ago, the Youth Forum was launched to make the day more enjoyable for kids, teens and families.  At the games, we put on our 'Youth Marquee' containing craft workshops, children's entertainers, clowns, face painting, balloon modelling, games, competitions, live music....the list is endless.  We also arrange army displays, including the Golden Lions Freefall Parachute Display team, careers stands, treasure hunts...  This has proved to be a great success and the number of families attending the games continues to rise each year - it really is a great day out.

Through the year, we hold ceilidhs to promote Scottish culture and school talks to help children discover the fun that lies in our country's tradition.  We hold an annual poster competition, covering West Lothian's 66 primary schools.

The forum is a group of 11-18 year olds who organise all of these activities.  However, to make sure the day is as good as possible, we need more and more new ideas.  This is why we have launched BHG Youth - the online way to have your say.

Simply click on the Online Forum link above, and you can decide what we have at the games, what we do through the year and how we spend our money.
